In years past I enjoyed the sounds of boaters blowing their conchs at sunset
while at anchor in Pelican Bay, Cayo Costa, FL. This year I was annoyed that
many boaters chimed in with their boat horns, which detracted from the
experience of hearing the conchs, at least for me. I'm wondering how many
other cruisers would prefer that folks refrain from blowing their boat horns
at sunset and just enjoy the conchs and other occasional musical
instruments.

Richard, Jill and I are two that agree with you, only we go farther. We'd
prefer not to hear the conchs either. I don't know why folks do that, nor
the fellas who get out their bagpipes and blow them at sunset. It seems
that some folks think that just because they think it's cool, that everyone
thinks it's cool. Same thinking as the follks that drive around town
thinking that everyone has a deep desire to listen to their music from
their cars. Same with people loudly talking on their phones in public. Must
be a 'notice me' attitude. Low self esteem maybe? Then, too, some maybe
just must make themselves feel like they are living the lifestyle.
