we have either boat chop or wind chop in the 1-2 ft range. On a windy
day it can approach 2.5-3 ft.  Given that as our boating environment I
believe the Cat is the best boat design for overall enjoyment. Our
ultimate goal is a 40+ cat to cruise up in the Puget Sound area.

My wife really likes the design and build out of the 40-50ft  mono
hulls, so looking for a cat that can have a similar build and interior
quality. So far the Spanish ExciteCat 1010 looks possible.

What we have found are Cat's under 40 ft tend to be fishing boat
oriented and Spartan in build out.

We believe the Cat concept is in a growth phase and we will be seeing
better and better boats offering more competitive alternatives to the
mono hulls.

Currently my wife and I run a large real estate office on the San
Francisco Peninsula ( San Carlos ) and get away to Tahoe as much as we
can. At some point I may look into representing a Catamaran line on the
lake, as I am a believer for Tahoe.

Hi George

I am from South Africa but is planning to move to St.Marie island on the
east coast of Madagascar. I am looking for a +34ft cat. To use for sport
fishing. Africat built a nice boat but it is a bit pricey. Perhaps I could
find a boat which is lying somewhere in the USA smarting to taste the Indian
Ocean. Anybody interested in Madagascar and fishing in the Indian Ocean is
welcome to contact me.

Kind Regards

Willem Nel

Hi Jim,

Welcome, I think you are onto something here.  My folks retired to a mostly residential lake in the blue ridge mountains of Virginia, 40 miles long, but 500 miles of shoreline.  So while the wind chop doesn't build up, there are lots of boats in the small arms and branches of the lake and the wakes bounce back and forth like crazy.

I've long thought that a 19-22'  family or sundeck version of a Glacier Bay would be perfect.  Most of the retired folks on the lake have 19-22' Sea Ray type boats that they use for water skiing 4 weekends a year when the kids and grandkids are in town and otherwise they go touring, looking at the new construction, and visiting friends.  My folks won't go out in the afternoon or on holiday weekends because they get bounced around so much.  And the reality is that they want to be in the 10-20mph range most of the time.  Those planning boats push water to 8mph and fall off plane below 20, so they are constantly going on and off plane.  Lots of folks trade up 2' at a time and are still dissatisfied.

As you said, the Glacier Bay and other boats are really fishing machines.  The GB 22 Dual Console is close, but with twin outboards and the fishing cockpit in the back, you won't sell it as a family boat.  Also since it's built for offshore, it's too expensive for the lake market.  The other reality is that folks will only buy from a dealer on the lake, since few have trailers and they can get service to come to them.

Best of luck,

Mark
