Dear CEF Members:
I. New Deputy Executive Director
· I’m pleased to share with you that ACG has made an offer to Sarah Abernathy to join ACG and serve as the Deputy Executive Director for CEF. I know many of you know Sarah, and I hope you agree with me that she will be a terrific addition to our team! Her depth of experience in both education issues and budget and appropriations will really fill out our leadership and advocacy team at ACG and help to execute our overall strategy and goals. Sarah will start on July 25th. If you do not know Sarah, her resume is attached.
II. Next week on the Hill
· The House is in recess next week and is scheduled to come back July 5th. The Senate will be back on Monday, June 27th. The financial rescue bill for Puerto Rico, a Zika virus funding package, and the Military Construction-VA Appropriations bill are all potential agenda items for the Senate next week.
III. Events
REMINDER: we have another CEF members meeting scheduled for next Friday, July 1st, with Caitlin Wilson, Education Legislative Assistant with Rep. NASFAA will hold its annual briefing, “The State of Student Aid," to release the annual National Student Aid Profile: Overview of Federal Programs on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 1:30 to 3 pm in room 2261 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The event will open with NASFAA’s Policy and Federal Relations staff providing background on the federal student aid programs before a diverse panel of higher education experts provides their perspective on today’s federal aid programs and where they’re heading moving forward. The American Educational Research Association is holding a public briefing titled “After Fisher: What the Supreme Court’s Ruling Means for Students, Colleges, and the Country” on Tuesday, June 28 from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. The briefing will be in the Holeman Lounge at the National Press Club, which is located at 529 14th St. NW, 13th Floor, Washington, DC 20045. On Wednesday, June 29th, the Senate Indian Affairs Committee will mark up the Johnson-O’Malley Supplemental Indian Education Program Modernization Act (S.2842). The mark-up will be at 2:15 pm in 628 Dirksen Senate Office Building.
