Conditions of Water Ways?

In an attempt to second guess Hurricane Ivan approaching the West Coast of
Florida. Specifically Tampa, I am considering moving our 43 foot boat down the
ICW through FT. Myers and into and across Lake Okeechobee.

Does anyone know of the conditions of the water ways along this path?  I
heard on the radio yesterday  , that some inlets on the East coast of Florida were
still closed.  Perhaps from sunken boats etc.

While I am not totally sold on the idea of moving across , it is however , an
option.

Another consideration is making the move and then having Hurricane Ivan make
the same move.  Much like Hurricane Charlie did a few hours before it was
predicted hit of Tampa.

Based on the poor condition of the Marina I rent from I just do not believe
many boats stand a chance  in their slips.  We have had boats hit the covered
roofs with just a few feet of extra tide from (tropical storm winds ) Francis.
Cleats broke loose from the concrete on both slips beside mine. The concrete
supports for the docks are literally crumbling.  Fair weather slips by all
standards.

If you live by or know the condition of the water way would you please
respond. I would estimate to have about a 24 hour window or so.  Needless to say it
is now 3:30 AM Friday and I cannot sleep.

I have been all over this area since Charlie came through, Boca Grande to
Point Yebel on Sanibel.  All inlets are open and most navigation markers
remain in place.  Watch for debris when crossing Charlotte Harbor and when
traveling up the Caloosahatchee.
