Opportunity to create design for new light rail platform glass
The Tacoma Arts Commission invites artists to submit qualifications to develop a two-dimensional design suitable for etching into the glass panels of two shelters at the new light rail stations at Commerce and 11th streets in downtown Tacoma.

"This could be a fantastic opportunity for a local 2D artist to create something in the public realm," said City of Tacoma Arts Administrator Amy McBride.
A $2,000 design fee will be paid to the selected artist. Applicants must reside in Pierce County, be 18 years or older and not be a full-time student. The artist must be able to start work immediately upon selection and complete the design within one month. Applications are due March 18, 2011.

The Tacoma Link Light Rail runs the length of Downtown Tacoma from the Theater District to the Dome District, stopping at three locations in between. The City of Tacoma is installing a sixth Light Rail platform on Commerce Street between 11th and 12th streets this spring. The new platform will be strategically placed in a high-traffic area, just one block south of a Pierce Transit hub, and right next to the Tacoma School of the Arts and the newly redesigned Pacific Plaza.
