I have four tanks, two 3408 cats, two NL gen sets and a fuel polishing system. As you might imagine, my fuel manifold is complicated. I ALWAYS AND ONLY return fuel to the tank from which it came. Polishing can be done in any configuration you might imagine and I do that separately. I learned this the hard way..... Once I starved both engines due to returning fuel to the wrong tank while running offshore. I immediately knew what I had done and at the same time I had over filled the receiving tank and belched fuel out of the tank vent.I don't recommend using any other method than the transfer pump to move and polish fuel.
