Make this Wednesday a Walking Wednesday with the Walk Tacoma Architecture Walk
Tacoma, Wash. - Get out and walk this Wednesday and join Downtown On the Go and City Council Member David Boe on the Walk Tacoma Architecture Walk, May 7, 2014 from noon - 1 p.m. The 1.5 mile walk, sponsored by AHBLhttp://www.ahbl.com/, will start at Wells Fargo Plaza at 12th and Pacific Avenue. The walk will highlight some of Tacoma's historical buildings and landmarks, like the Historic Tacoma Post Office Building, the Murray Morgan Bridge, old City Hall, and the Northern Pacific Building. There is no need to pre-register for the event, simply join us at the meeting spot.
Nearly 300 downtown employees and residents have joined Downtown On the Go for the walks this year. "Walk Tacoma events are a great way to learn about the history and architecture of the community, while getting outside to exercise during the workday. With each walk covering a different route and topic, I get to learn a little more about each corner of our downtown," said David Schroedel, Walk Tacoma participant and Metropolitan Development Director with the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber.
Walk Tacoma 2014, sponsored by Franciscan Health Systemhttp://www.fhshealth.org/, is an eight-event walking series held on first and third Wednesdays, from April through August. The fun, themed walks, now in their fifth year, encourage downtown employees and residents to exercise and enjoy the outdoors by discovering the different walking routes and parks in downtown Tacoma. The walks are scheduled at the lunch hour and just after work to encourage downtown employees to walk during their workday, whether it is to and from work or at a lunch break.
Walking maps of the routes are available at no cost at Downtown On the Go (950 Pacific Ave, Suite 300), at many downtown businesses, or by contacting Meagan Kula, Downtown On the Go Coordinator, at 253-682-1734 or dotg@tacomachamber.org.
