Hi ron,

What size is your CQR?  How heavy is your boat?

I’m surprised you’re having problems with a 6:1 payout of all chain rode.  Do you really back it down hard, or let it settle a bit?

We started with a Bruce and CQR, almost always using the CQR, usually a 3:1 scope.  I do increase the scope sometimes like in the Everglades where our props spun at anchorwith the tidal swings!

After a trip to the Bahamas, we noticed that there were many Rocna’s on the bows of the stinkers and sailors down there.  We talked with people, did some research and after a couple of drags later we switched to a Rocna, upped one size.  Very happy with that decision so far and have been in a really big blow during a thunderstorm this last spring.

I believe Manson Supreme is basically a Rocna copy.  I asked an experienced cruiser on Blue Angel who had a MS if he would get it again.  He said no, he’d get the Rocna, and that’s how we ended up with ours.

I do agree with John:  > The point is that there is no one anchor that is ideal for all types of bottom types and structures such as: sand, clay, rocks / choral, heavy weed beds, etc. Your all chain rhode should only require a typical 4:1 scope unless you are in a swift current situation or you are concerned about dragging anchor.

Good luck with it.
