Roger,
Access is unlimited for the Verizon air card. You can actually get the same access through certain cell phones, and can pay less for limited access. Someone in the business solutions section at Verizon can tell you about the various options. I found people in the local offices did not have a good handle on this.

I have been using the Palm Treo 650 cell phone for the
last several months. I got the unlimited access
account from Verizion for about $50 per month and then
downloaded a program called PDANet from the internet.
PDANet permits connecting the Treo to the laptop via
the USB port so it becomes a modem. I don't get
broadband speeds as I would with an air card but I
mostly cruise Charlotte Harbor and Pine Island Sound
and the air card probably wouldn't provide broadband
speeds there anyway. Instead I get speeds roughly
comparable to a 56K dial up line. Often, during prime
time usage, Verizion will disconnect me and I have to
reconnect. This is an annoyance but overall I am
pleased with my new cell phone and mobile internet
connectivity.
The Treo 650 is really a computer with built in
internet connectivity so you can check email or get
the weather forecast directly from it without hooking
up to the laptop. That display and keyboard is real
tiny though.
If you need a new cell phone anyway as well as mobile
internet capability, the Treo is worth looking into.
