Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsYou may be able to get free AC power on the bulkhead wall in Grand Haven
instead of paying at the marina. If the wind is WEST, the marina is horrible
because your boat slip is perpendicular to the waves hitting you on the
beam. Its bouncy on the wall in WEST wind also because there is an angle to
the waves. That's how it was when we were there. Some places on the wall do
not have power working.
But the wall is even closer to the mains street.

We're departing Frankfort, Michigan tomorrow morning and anticipate getting
to Grand Haven by Thursday. The weather for this area looks great for the
next 4-5 days so there shouldn't be any problem (knock on wood).
We're going to need to stay in Grand Haven for about a week so Judy can fly
to Kansas from Grand Rapids for her mother's 92nd birthday. The cats and I
will be staying with Sanderling at a marina.
Looking for suggestions for marinas for a week's stay. Active Captain lists
several including the municipal marina which is the most appealing due to
it's location near restaurants and shopping, but the reviewers all note that
it is sometimes uncomfortable when the wind is out of the west. The marina
near the lake on the north side of the river looks good but it is very
remote and isolated without a vehicle to get around with (I don't plan on
having a rental car during our stay except to transport Judy to and from the
airport).
Any thoughts on marinas there and particularly about the municipal marina?
