Harris-Stowe to Name Park After the Late J.B. "Jet" Banks

ST. LOUIS, MO (October 10, 2011) - Harris-Stowe will officially name its
park, located at 3024 Olive Blvd., The J.B. "Jet" Banks Memorial Park to
posthumously honor one of its long-time supporters, Senator Banks. The
ceremony will take place on the grounds of the park on Monday, October
17, 2011, at 10 a.m.

In 1979, Senator Banks was responsible for Senate Bill 703, which
allowed Harris-Stowe College to enter the state system of Public Higher
Education. It was during this time that the institution became known as
Harris-Stowe State College. Additionally, his sponsorship of Senate Bill
153 enabled Harris-Stowe to expand its mission in 1993 by offering
baccalaureate degree programs in Business Administration, Secondary
Teacher Education and Criminal Justice.

Mrs. Anita Banks, the widow of Senator Banks will offer remarks at the
ceremony. The public is invited to attend this historic naming
celebration.

Harris-Stowe State University, located in midtown St. Louis, is a
four-year institution that offers 14 degree programs in the areas of
Accounting, Business Administration, Biology, Criminal Justice, Early
Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Health Care Management,
Hospitality and Tourism Management, Information Sciences and Computer
