Hi all,
Today Sunday, Sept.16/07 I observed the following over our house in
Aurora. In the
morning at around 9:30 a.m. a flock of approx. 100 Blue Jays flew over
in a westerly direction.
Between 1:30 p.m. and 3: 00 p.m. I observed kettles and streams of
Broad-winged Hawks
flying over or just to the south of our house in Aurora. In that period
I would estimate their
number at several hundred ( 400+). The ones flying over our house were
lower moving quickly
in a southwest direction until they linked up with another stream- a bit
higher- just to the south
of our house moving directly west. As the sky openned up they caught
thermals and gathered in
kettles of 25 to 50+. At about 3:00 p.m. only a trickle of BWH's were
passing by. It is probable
that they were passing by in good numbers even before I got home at 1:30
p.m.
Numerous small passerines were evident in the trees along our street today.
Also this week I continued to observe on several occasions 1 Great Egret
at the Mckenzie Marsh.
I last saw it on Friday. There were 5 Great Blue Herons and 1 Green
Heron present. At least 5 Caspian
Terns, 20 or so DC Cormorants and a Belted Kingfisher were also present
Good birding
