NEW KROGEN 44 ARRIVES NEXT SUMMER

The Krogen 42, a much-admired classic that ended its production run
in 1998 after 206 models had been launched, is being reincarnated.
Next summer, it will be back, updated and slightly larger.

The Krogen 44 will have the shippy profile, seakeeping abilities and
convenient interior of the 42 designed in 1976, but in most respects
it will be a new and larger boat designed and built in a new century.

Asia Harbor Yacht Builders, one of the leading boatbuilders in
Taiwan, is preparing to loft the new 44, Kurt Krogen, president of
Kadey-Krogen Yachts in Stuart, Florida, told Trawler World News. With
the first seven orders in place, Asia Harbor is expanding its
facility to meet the expected demand for the 44.

In designating its models, Kadey-Krogen likes to use traditional
length-on-deck measurement, thus, the 44 is really 49 feet in length
overall. It's a full-displacement vessel.

With her additional 2 feet in length and 6 inches in beam, the 44
promises to be nicely proportioned. In the Krogen tradition, the teak
aft and side decks will be larger, non-fastened and fully covered.
The bulwarks will include molded plank lines and new, heavy gauge
316L stainless steel hawse cleats. The new, hinged side gates should
be a welcomed addition to make boarding easier. The pilothouse top,
updated flying bridge design and longer boat deck will now be
incorporated into a single integral piece. There will be some
production benefits from this method of construction, along with
definite structural benefits, Krogen said. The nonskid on the upper
deck and foredeck will be Awlgrip Griptex, custom color-matched to
the gel coat in Awlgrip "Kadey-Krogen beige." The lower side decks
will now feature molded-in steps. The foredeck, with slightly less
slope forward than the Krogen 42, extends to the newly designed and
appointed bowsprit incorporating the forward shore power outlet (aft
shore power outlet is also standard) and the fresh water bib.

"One of the more notable upgrades on the Krogen 44 will be
weather-tight, welded aluminum doors and premium grade powder-coated
aluminum sliding windows," Krogen said. "There are other refinements
planned that are not as noticeable, but definitely quality minded,
such as the change from steel to lead ballast, tinned wiring and 316L
stainless steel water tanks."

The interior will sport several refinements, such as updated
lighting, Corian counter tops, heavy gauge Formica, carefully
selected natural grain, heavy gauge teak veneers and solid woods,
Krogen said. The saloon will boast a roomier interior and will sport
a standard L-shaped settee with hi-low table starboard and either
owner-supplied chairs or optional built-ins to port. The
entertainment center, housed in the saloon/galley dividing cabinet,
will accommodate a flat-screen TV, DVD and/or VCR.

The pilothouse will be notably larger and incorporate an updated
electronics panel design. There will now be ample space for a fixed
helm chair without cramping the popular watchberth that converts to a
double. While the majority of the space on the new Krogen 44 will be
gained on the main deck and pilothouse levels, the forward
accommodations will offer a few more inches of elbow room, rendering
the island queen master, head and den/guest stateroom just that much
more livable, Krogen said.

There will be several notable improvements in the engine room. In
addition to the overall increased space, upgrades will include
perforated aluminum, lead-lined, foam paneling for sound insulation,
12-volt florescent lighting, larger, heavy-gauge aluminum diesel oil
tanks and new equipment shelves aft of the tanks. The standard power
will be a John Deere 6068TFM, 154 hp continuous duty engine.

At the base price of $625,000, Krogen said, the new 44 fits nicely
between her little sister, the Krogen 39, at $405,000 and the Krogen
48 North Sea at $748,000. The Krogen 44 will also be offered in
wide-body model at $645,000.

Kadey-Krogen enjoys one of the best resale values in the trawler
industry. Many Krogen 42s are selling for more than their original
purchase price.

WORKING YACHTS IN METAL FROM PAT BRAY

Working Yachts are serious long-range offshore cruisers which were
developed by Bray Yacht Design And Research as the result of a client
request for a high-quality, work-boat style vessel built in metal.

The displacement yachts are heavy-built for unrestricted offshore
use, and feature Pat Bray's latest thinking in hull, bulb and
stabilizer designs, giving owners a vessel that is claimed to be 30
percent more fuel efficient than most other boats in the marketplace.

Because these cruising trawlers are custom-built on a standard hull
form, Bray said, they can be built for half the cost of "gold-plated"
superyachts of the same size, and the superstructure and interior
layout are styled and designed to suit each owner.

Working Yachts are available in steel and aluminum construction to
any stage of completion, and typical features include a watertight
forward collision bulkhead, watertight engine room bulkheads, a
spacious pilothouse, an efficient seagoing galley, and plenty of
storage space.

Four vessels in this series have been sold. The first, a 76-foot
long-range motoryacht was built in an Alabama yard. It completed an
8,300-mile delivery trip through the Panama Canal to its home port of
San Diego.
