Oct. 29 at the Foss Waterway Seaport. Tacoma Ocean Fest invitesTacomans to put on their most creative costume and paddle the Thea FossWaterway in this super-fun, family-friendly kickoff for Halloween.
The eventhappens rain or shine, and includes a litter pickup, plus fun elements like theTrashoctopus sculpture and the extravagantly costumed Tacomarama brass band,roaming the esplanade to create somemusical stoke for the paddle.
There will befood trucks, prizes, games and more. All activities are completely free,including entry to the Foss Waterway Seaport museum 10am – 2pm at 705 Dock St,Tacoma. Return to the museum at 5pm for the Tacoma Night Market, or come thenext day for the Market’s Drag Brunch.
Here’s what’s on:
12-2pm:TRASH-FOR-TREAT: Swing by the Ocean Fest tent at the Foss Waterway Seaport to pickup gloves and a bag (or bring your own). Then pick up trash along Dock St, andbring it back to the Trashoctopus for a free sticker and chance at raffleprizes.
1-2pm:PADDLE: Launch any human-powered vessel at the Seaport or Thea's Park,paddle down and assemble at the 11th St Bridge for a group photo!
Need a ride? Join the Metro Parks kayak trip. $15, sign up in advance at tacomaoceanfest.org/costume-paddle. Or just watchfrom shore!
COSTUMECONTEST: Paddlers should snap a pic in costume with board/kayak and uploadto tacomaoceanfest.org/costume-paddle before the paddle begins. Categoriesinclude MostArtsy, Best Ocean Animal and Spookiest.
2pm:RAFFLE & COSTUME PRIZES: Announced at the Ocean Fest tent and online. Winners will alsobe contacted for prize pickup.
