Artist* Statement:*

Decay explores the rapid deterioration of abandoned structures. Strauss
uses the visceral human response to condemned places and shows the humanity
of these buildings through light and composition. What was once seen as a
detriment reanimates with light and new growth. The imagery— depicted as
void yet detailed— brings a haunting beauty to a world long forgotten.

Artist* Bio:*

Shannon Strauss was born and raised in Bergenfield, New Jersey. She first
attended The School of Visual Arts but later moved to Savannah, Georgia to
complete her degrees in Photography and Historic Preservation at The
Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). While attending SCAD, Strauss
was introduced to experimental methods that enabled her to integrate her
photographs into three-dimensional works of art. After leaving Georgia she
settled down in Tacoma, Washington. Today, Shannon’s work continues to
explore the different applications of photography and experimental
processes. Strauss has had work exhibited nationally with recent
exhibitions in Tacoma, Georgia, and New York.
