FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 7, 2023
___________
The City of Auburn and the Auburn Arts Commission are pleased to present the work of Hadiya Finley and Jon Haaland at the Community Center Gallery, on view July 7 - August 29, 2023.
Artist Hadiya Finley's sculptures focus on the female figure and are meant as an expression of women's feelings. Her artworks are crafted with "simplicity of form, softening of edges, joints and surfaces. Exaggerated form, altered relationships and integrated texture are used to show women as strong, powerful and tender beings who use their bodies as a means of expression."
Jon Haaland considers his artwork an examination of "spaces away from people, either protected from or recovering from human endeavor." The artist seeks to use his photography and mixed media work to document "the damage done, and the blight we leave behind, while illuminating the vast scapes held in small spaces, beautiful and unseen, sheltered from human hands."
