Well, getting back to birds and birding - I wondered where I could get some
current information regarding Bald Eagles in Connecticut. Last year from
the end of September to the beginning of December, my friend and I (while
recording observations of nesting Ospreys) had the privilege of watching
Eagles hanging out along the Branford River behind the Branford Cemetery.
We logged and photographed a single adult and four juvenile birds (birds
born that year by our estimations on plumage coloration - one bird when
viewed via scope due to distance away showed a gold colored leg band). Just
a couple days ago, I was out observing the Ospreys and a juvenile Eagle flew
over the same area. I understand that Eagles have an expanding population
these days and wondered how to check out their status in Branford. When
talking with some of the locals residing near the river, it was reported
that Eagles have periodically been sighted in this particular area -
generally in the fall. However, I wondered about the population of resident
birds in CT in locations outside the CT River. Any ideas?
