A public trust owns a former retail space that they are going to give/lease
to the municipality to use as a library. The trust is planning to
reconfigure the space to suit the library before the transfer/lease is
finalized. They asked me to prepare an RFP for that work. (They provided
very general ideas to describe the work - for example - remove X wall, make
the bathroom ADA compliant.)
I think before we prepare an RFP we need the input of an architect or some
other expert who is qualified to advise as to safety and ADA issues,
specifically. (The municipality really doesn't have a code enforcement
person who is well versed in those areas.) But also to plan the space so
that it best meets the various needs and goals.
This is not an unusual scenario for me but, because this is such a big and
important project that is to be used by the general public, I feel like it
should be planned more intentionally.
Can any of you, especially those who work with smaller communities,
recommend an architect for this situation?
If you have other thoughts or experiences, I'd appreciate those.
