Why doesn't everyone do it?
Ever been in blue water Greg?
Ever fed the fish with what you had for breakfast YESTERDAY and still had a week to go before seeing any land?
Ever clean up someone else's vomit cause you wanted some novice to help make your boat payment?
Ever see the movie "White Squall"?
Ever chartered a vessel like this for YOUR vacation and paid 6000 to 8000?
Ever met or know anyone who has?
Ever heard the term "Only difference is if you are buying or selling".
Ever gave thought about what 1,500 gallons in fuel capacity equates to on the pump tumblers?
Ever gave thought as to what kind of gun to have on board to ward off pirates?
Ever fired a 50 cal. bolt action, with rusty green ammo?
Ever DR'ed ANY sound?
Just playing with you Greg, my wife and I have the same dream, just not the same time frame.
I punch a clock for a factory every day and the only thing that keeps me sane is knowing that some day (7 years from now), my wife and I can persue our life long dream, and spend every dime we have on some junk boat that the baby boomers don't want, just to be nautical full time.
Ever witness in person a dolphin fish serge and hit a piece of live bait in crystal clear water and soar in the air 15 feet on the same strike, go tail first in the water and leap again, and again?
Ever see the sunset and wonder how it can be that red and not burn your eyes?
Ever hear the words to "Jimmy Buffett's" Boluxi and understand what he is talking about?
Ever wonder what will happen when the world finally runs out of crude oil?
I do.

Subject: [PCW] Liveaboards / Purchase for Chartering / etc...
I am new to the world of boating, however, the wife and I are
considering selling everything and purchasing a liveaboard. I work as
a computer programmer and feel I can do quite a bit of work on board (a
working sabbatical if you will). It will probably be about 1-2 years
before we could leave. As I have been doing research on the subject
for the last 6 months or so, I think I am leaning toward buying a power
cat. (My wife and I really like the specifications and look of the
Lagoon 43). I have so many questions, I'm not sure where to start, but
I can probably boil it down to two main questions.
-
Is the Lagoon 43 or a similar type vessel a good liveaboard vessel
for cruising the Southeast US coastline ad Caribbean?
-
Does anyone have experience with purchasing a boat for chartering?
It seems like if we could do this soon and get a couple of years of
others chartering our boat we could generate cash to help pay for it
before we leave. For example, one company appears to offer a 77/23
split. A Lagoon 43 appears to charter for anywhere from 6000-8000/wk.
I read somewhere that average charter occupancy is 20-22 weeks per
year. That seems to come to 60002077%=92400 (low) or
80002277%=135520 (high). It seems the boat could help pay for itself
in just a few short years. Is this crazy? Is my math off? I keep
asking myself that if this worked, why doesn't everyone do it?
Any thoughts are appreciated...
Thanks...
