Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsFor those debouching the Tenn-Tom on their Great Loop trip and thinking of
heading west in the Mississippi Sound, I want to make you aware of a fairly
recent major expansion of the previously limited Pass Christian harbor. Ken
Tischler of the Trawlers and Trawlering email list advised me of the new
harbor expansion at Pass Christian. PC is ideally suited to a stopover when
heading to or from New Orleans. In the past, one can find some less than
enthusiastic reviews of the older, west side harbor at this location, but an
entirely new basin has been dredged and enclosed immediately to the east of
the old harbor. According to an email exchange with the dock master,
transient moorings will be "assigned to whatever accommodates the vessel or
the vessel owners choice if its available, we do not have floating docks."
So an informed cruiser will probably want to request the eastern harbor. It
is not displayed on any chart I have seen, but Google Earth certainly shows
it.
Due to the fact that the expansion is so new there are no reviews about it
on Active Captain; so I contacted the mayor of Pass Christian who got his IT
guy right on the problem. I directed him to Active Captain, and he
immediately subscribed and entered sufficient data for cruisers to now see
an extra red blob on Active Captain which is entitled Pass Christian East
Harbor.
Happy cruising.
