John

I recently read a post on another boating list about a custom
made plastic tank in polypropylene with welded seams.  The
boater was very pleased and, as I recall, the cost seemed
reasonable.  That's all I know about it.  Here's a couple of
links but I don't know if either one is the one he bought from.

I have
spoken at length to local shops who make roto moulded plastic tanks however
it gets really complicated in order to attempt to supply any sort of
accurate pattern and then being a real "custom" the cost is unbelievable.

Bob, Jim and all - thanks very much for the input. I realize that I did not
indicate a major problem here in that this tank is to fit in the bow of a
wooden boat hence the reference to attaching panels direct to the ribs for
shape.
I have exhausted all local avenues for having a "plastic" tank manufactured
even to the point of contacting Rocco. The problem is how do you show, in a
drawing, the 3 or 4 dimentional curves of the sides and bottom to allow
accurate reproduction. We have a fairly large manufacturer of plastic tanks
in the area however they wnat an exact replica of what I need, probably in
wood, so that they can "attempt" to warp their moulds to fit my needs, The
starting cost estimate was in the order of $700 to $1000 for a 100 gal tank.
I know that I can build one to fit out of plywood and epoxy, the only real
question was how to avoid the "chemical" odour in the water.
Bob - your advice on the coatings was very informative and I have a quote
coming from Rustoleum.  Benjamin Moore will not import their product into
Canada and I cannot find an agent for Sherwin Williams that knows anything
except residential products and they are not willing to investigate either.

Again - thank you very much for your input - I am away and running on the
project today <grin> Now I have to just make certain that the finished
product will go thru the passageways when I go to do the final installation.
