For those starting to think about heading south for the fall, for the AGLCA
Rendezvous, etc.--there are going to be some lock delays.

This was all clipped from the Ingram Barge Company web site, which collects
info from USACE and USCG and other sources for its tow boat captains. When
they refer to a "boat," they are talking about a multi-barge tow. The info
is dated August 17, 2006.

"Ohio River -

Lock 52 - Up with 42 boats in queue and 38 hours delay. The auxiliary chamber
will be down for repairs from 8/8/06 through 9/15/06. There are several
repairs required to get it in condition for the Main Chamber outage. The
Main Chamber outage is scheduled for 9/19/06 through 11/11/06. There are
nine (9) cells that require extensive repairs. At the present time the
proposed
plan will be to make repairs to three cells at a time which will require
5 to 10 days at a time. They seem to think it will be closer to 5 days than
10. There will be a two (2) to three (3) day time frame where the lock will
be opened to pass additional traffic and attempt to clear the queues. This
is assuming the lock is in operation.

Lock 53 - Up with 8 boats in queue and 7 hours delay."

Tennessee River:

"-----------------------
Kentucky Lock will be closed for repairs beginning 8/15/06 through 09/07/06.
All traffic will be diverted through Barkley Lock. Currently there is 1
boat in queue with 2 hours delay."

"Wilson Lock Main Chamber is down with 17 boats in queue and 7 days delay.
The Shreve successfully removed the gate yesterday evening (16 Aug) and
repositioned the gate where it is hanging level from the crane. The gate
is being loaded onto a barge today for removal off-site for repairs. Once
the gate is loaded onto the barge it will take several hours to secure the
gate in a stable position for transport. Estimate this activity will be
completed this morning. When this is completed, the gate and the Shreve
will be moved from the main chamber.

Following the removal of the gate and the Shreve, lockages will begin at
the main lock using the Corps? maintenance closure "caisson." BECAUSE OF
THE NATURE OF THIS ACTIVITY, THE MAINTENANCE CLOSURE WILL ONLY BE USED FOR
LOCKAGES DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS. The auxiliary lock will continue to pass
traffic during non-daylight hours.

Updates will continue to be posted on the Nashville district web page at
http://www.lrn.usace.army.mil/
