I am forced to move my boat up or down the coast from Savannah in order to
get the bottom painting done. Unfortunately in Savannah and the Hilton Head
area there are only a few boatyards that are able to haul a 28 ton, 56' boat
and "none" that are willing to deal openly with me on the costs to do the
bottom. The exceptions were $12,000 quoted by Palmer Johnson and $8,000
that Saint Augustine Marine estimated. I do not think these are reasonable
quotes. I am hoping to move it to an area where there is some competition
and interest in completing the work I need done.
Does anyone have experience with Halsey Cannon in Wando, SC.? Jacksonville,
Fla. or Charleston are other choices that are still drivable for my commute
from Atlanta on weekends for the next year.
I would appreciate referrals from satisfied customers. I am willing to pay
a fair price and would like to deal with a reputable yard. Your help would
be appreciated as her bottom is in dire need of attention. :>)

I've heard good things about Lamb's in Jacksonville. First read
favorable things about them in a Krogen-owners' newsletter, and then
later my friend and neighbor had bottom work done there on his 52'
Franklin. He was very happy with their work (and prices), and he is
not an easy man to please. :-)
That said, I'm -- even as we "speak" -- getting the bottom of my
Krogen 42' painted right here in Savannah at Palmer Johnson. (The
first paint job under my relatively new ownership.) Their estimate
for my 42' was about a quarter of the figure you mentioned. I'll let
you know later if I find their "dealing" was less than "open". They
certainly have a great reputation, unlike virtually all of the other
boatyards in the immediate area.
