There was some discussion a couple of weeks ago about the CAS State of the
Birds report article that cited estimated cerulean warbler numbers.
Coincidently, the September issue of Journal of Field Ornithology has an
article (pps. 311-319) that discusses the pitfalls and variables in the
distance sampling method of estimating population abundance in
golden-cheeked warblers. There seem to be a lot of ways these counts can be
off.
