Council member wants the municipality to pay for tree/limb cleanup on private property. Proposal is that I engage Joe's Tree Service to come cut down my broken trees & move limbs to the curb. Joe doesn't bill me - he takes the bill to City Hall and the City will pay it. I don't think the city can do this. We can't pay for improvements to private property, as a general rule. But maybe we can put together a grant program under which the city will reimburse a homeowner up to $___ for work/repairs necessitated by the disaster? Have any of you done this before? The city is already picking up the limbs placed curbside and dealing with them. I believe they are considering using CARES Act money for this, if that makes a difference.
