( RAGS is a juried wearable art competition and sale that benefits the YWCA’s domestic violence prevention and intervention programs. Produced entirely by volunteers, sponsors, and underwriting donations, RAGS offers the public an opportunity to view and acquire fabulous handmade clothing, jewelry and accessories created by artisans from across the country. Saturday March 10th we'll be performing for the Washington state finals of the Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest<https://www.facebook.com/PoetryOutLoud/?fref=mentions> held at the Broadway Center for the Performing Arts<https://www.facebook.com/BroadwayCenterforthePerformingArts/?fref=mentions> in Tacoma WA. I'll be joined by Osama Afifi on bass. 1pm, all ages welcome, no cover charge. Poetry Out Loud was piloted on a limited basis in Washington State in 2005. In that first year, the program included just eight high schools in Thurston County. In 2016-17 there were over sixty schools from all across the state, with over 20,000 students participating. In 2016, Washington State Poetry Out Loud program ranked in the top five programs in the country in terms of numbers of students participating. Washington State Champions have been a strong presence at the National Poetry Out Loud competition and Washington has had one National Champion (Langston Ward of Spokane in 2013).
