G'day Dennis, good report, thanks!
Were you using paravanes or active fins or......????
The MPG figures seem to be low so I would assume either really bad
headwinds/seas or heavy use of stabilizers.
It sounds like the boat was very well maintained to have no problems over
this course in those seas.
This passage is always iffy at this time of year. The cold fronts are moving
thru with tropical storms a possibility and this year especially so. I doubt
that a shot straight south to cross the gulf stream and then stay east of it
till the Bahamas and then in thru Northeast passage would have been any
better.
At least on the shore route you can stay out of the bigger seas in favor of
a nasty confused near shore chop.
Not much sea room between the Gulf Stream and Hatteras' graveyard. I'd sure
not want to get caught there heading south in any kind of an east sea with a
northwest cold front passing over it!
Glad you made it safely and again that Nordhavn must have been in top nick.
Kudos to the owner and his maintenance program :-)
Cheers
