Submission Deadline: March 31, 2025 by 10:00 a.m. PST
Pierce County invites portfolio submissions to be considered for the creation of murals throughout Pierce County. The murals will serve as neighborhood landmarks, places of community pride and graffiti deterrents.
Scope of Work
We are in search of all styles of artwork for these projects, from abstract to street art, contemporary to realism, and beyond.
The budgets for these projects vary from approximately $25,000- $75,000 including but not limited to taxes, insurance, supplies, scaffolding, artwork, permits and any other requirements of the project. Travel funds are not available for this project.
The Request for Portfolios features:
- Five separate mural projects in three locations.
- 3 Finalists for each individual project (15 total finalists) to create site specific mural proposals.
- Finalist will be compensated for their completed proposals ($800-$1200, project dependent).
- Applicants may apply for any single mural location, any combination of mural locations or all mural locations with this one application.
The mural locations are:
- Sprinker Recreation Center skate park at 521 Military Rd S. in Tacoma, WA (three projects at this location)
- The walkway barrier and retaining wall near the intersection of 152nd St E & 22nd Ave E. in Parkland, WA
- The retaining wall at the intersection of Pioneer Way & Gay Rd, 3100 Pioneer Way E. in Waller, WA
Eligibility
- Applicant must be 18 years or older and permitted to work in the U.S.
- Applicant may be an individual or team of artists.
- All projects must be completed by provided deadlines.
- Funding is on a reimbursable basis. Funds will be disbursed when project milestones are completed, as outlined in the Contract for Services. Therefore, individuals must have a source of cash-flow to support segments of their project during the Contract period.
- Pierce County Arts Commissioners and their immediate family are ineligible to apply.
About the artwork space
Murals are to be located on Pierce County owned property or facilities in unincorporated areas. Mural projects vary in square footage from approximately 785 sq. ft. to 13,110 sq. ft. Artwork longevity of murals must display in good condition for at least five (5) years.
