On the cover of Power Cruising this month (Jan-Feb 06) --  as well as on page
82 with a short sea trial article -- is the new  Island Pilot 39 which uses
twin Volvo-Penta 350-hp Duoprop sterndrives.  Reuben Trane deserves credit for
boldly going where others fear to tread.  I thought the IP-39 was one of the
most interesting and appealing new  (non-cats) at the Annapolis show last
fall.  I'm sure Reuben would argue  strongly in favor of the stern-drive option --
he was very persuasive in  the short conversation I had with him.  (His
