Actually, there are several options. I would say that 24 volt systems are better than 12 volt. Hydraulic thrusters are probably better than electrical but you start to raise the level of complexity exponentially. Having said all that, it all depends on the size and weight of your boat as well as the hull form. I had a 36’ Krogen with a 5hp Vetus. My Back Cove 29 has a tiny little thruster that will whip the bow of the boat around surprisingly quick, but there isn’t much boat in the water on that hull.
