Idlewild 01/15/06: Crossing the Agulhas Current

GK
Georgs Kolesnikovs
Mon, Jan 16, 2006 11:28 AM

Date/time:                Jan 15, 2006 12:00 local  08:00 z
Position at noon:      33°20' S    &    032°30' E
noon to noon            149.3 nm
Avg. speed:              6.2 kts
Course bearing:        090°T
Sea state & wx:        S 12,  ESE 7 feet,  cloudy with squalls
Crew:                      Ben, Brad, & Kevin
Days:                      2 days from East London
Goal:                      to Fremantle Australia
To go:                      about 4450 nm

Remarks:
Agulhas Current lived up to its
reputation.  Smooth for us but a very strong
current for this speed so we had to go 90 degrees
across instead of more easterly as we had
planned.  Once out 35 miles it was manageable and
we went straight east.

Electronics are almost as reliable as a drunken
sailor.  Don't worry if we miss some days as its
just the email.
