I've been running Nobeltec V6.0 on both a laptop with WIN 98 and a desktop
with WIN XP Home. No problems with either machine.

I suspect this is a VNS setup problem rather than a VNS & XP Pro combo
problem, but it is driving me crazy. It has to do with automatically
advancing to the next waypoint on a route.
I have recently installed my VNS version 6.5.620 on my new laptop, which
runs WIndows XP, Pro. I cannot make it automatically advance to the next
waypoint. I always get the message: "You are either within 101.3 yd of your
current active waypoint or have passed this...". I do have the Tools |
Options | Misc Tab option named "Automatically activate next WP upon WP
arrival" set to Yes.
This was not a problem on my previous Windows 98SE laptop. I have double
checked all the VNS settings between the two systems and cannot find a
difference.
Any ideas?

Jim,
I run a lot of older programs on my XP pro laptop. I've found that in
some cases, it helps to run the program in "compatibility" mode.
In order to do that, find the executable for the program (the "*.exe"
file) with Explorer. Right click on the file, >Properties >Compatibility
check the "run this file in compatibility mode for ...." & click on
win98/ME. It's an easy workaround and it can be undone by simply
unchecking the box if it doesn't help.
I'm no expert, but I understand it has to do with the way the program
calls .dll files & how it utilizes the processor bus and some driver
code. YMMV. I've successfully gotten my Jane's AH-64 simulator program
to run on my home XP system with this workaround, plus other older win98
programs that were flakey on XP.
Worth a try for as easy as it is to implement.

From Island Packet, a local Hilton Head, SC, newspaper, last Saturday a MT49
carrying 27 passengers to dinner in Savannah was waked by a vessel "roughly"
55 in length and tipped over. The wake was estimated to be 4.5 feet,
observers claim the MT was listing to one side before the wake hit. (Captain
disagrees.) All passengers were rescued in 8 minutes (remarkable) by
"Samaritans."
Complete story:

Since the exact length of the waker was not stated, I'm wondering if
itdidn't stop and kept on going.
This sounds like too much weight too high on the MT.

Here is the stuff on the boat. See my comments below.
COCONUT WOMAN USCG Doc. No.: 1131731
Vessel Service: PASSENGER (MORE THAN 6) IMO Number: *
Trade Indicator: Coastwise Unrestricted Call Sign: *
Hull Material: ALUMINUM Hull Number: TXR00040A003

and Address: *
This is apparently not a Marine Trader. Note the build year 2002, and
the aluminum hull. This is an inspected, carrying passengers for hire
boat, apparently rated to carry at least 28 passengers. There is
going to be one hell of an uproar over this if a 50' boat, 16 feet
wide, can be overturned in calm seas by the 5 foot wake of a nearby boat.
Note the TINY draft of 3 feet.

This doesn't sound like the boat described at all....in fact it actually sounds like a pontoon boat. Even owned by a pontoon boat rental place. Could it be a duplicate named boat and not the one that overturned?

Pontoon boat would be my guess. All aligned along one side? Not hard to
imagin it going over....
