I made 2 recent visits to Fort Ticonderoga on the shore of Lake Champlain
recently and got some wonderful (I think) photos including some aerial
shots from a mountain 2 miles away using a very long lens.
Haven't yet figured out a reasonable way to access the fort via boat, but
the anchorage below the fort is getting quite popular lately. I saw some
dinghys going to the shore, so there must be a way.
