Hello Colleagues,
Sandra Phoenix and I attended the October 21st plenary meeting of the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA), which was hosted at The National Archives in Washington, DC. The Sloan Foundation and Arcadia Foundation are contributing a total of $5M in funding to support a two-year grassroots project to build a detailed workplan for a national digital library.
John Palfrey, Harvard Law Professor and Chair of the DPLA Steering Committee, described the concept of a digital public library. It will be designed collaboratively to make cultural and scientific records available to everyone, creating a resource that goes well beyond providing simple access to digitized content. The DPLA will be a trusted platform for knowledge online that is universally accessible, participatory and compelling.
Follow this link http://dp.la/ to access the website.
I'll share more information at the December Board meeting.
