Thanks to all who have offered their insights so far. I did some further web
checking into my own question (how did we manage to survive before the web
and search engines?) and came up with this website that lists arrival and
departure dates for spring and fall, by state.

Obviously I can't comment on how accurate this is but wanted to put it out
there for the list to see.

As Jim Hunter has pointed out, one pretty good source of informaton on
arrival/departure dates for birds in Connecticut is - appropriately enough-
a book entitled "CONNECTICUT BIRDS" by Joseph D. Zeranski and Thomas R.
Baptist.  The book was published by University Press of New England in 1990.
It may be available online somewhere.

Many things have changed since the book was written, but it is generally
still a good source of information. Other groups may well have their own
records, such as the New Haven Bird Club, as Jim mentioned.
