Hello Friends and Neighbors,
- Spring is almost here and time for me to pass along some information about
some good-for-the-environment gardening events; I hope you will pass this
email along to others who might be interested.
- February 23 - next week - Douglas Tallamy at Seattle Town Hall.
www.townhallseattle.org . His lecture is titled "Gardeners as Land Stewards"
and he wrote the book "Bringing Nature Home". The environmentally inclined
will find his message very important. You can search his book title or his
name in your browser for more info.
- Washington Native Plant Society is offering an excellent workshop called
Native Garden Design Workshop that you can find at www.wnps.org. It is a
tremendous value and taught by an experienced professional. The sign-up
steps take a few minutes and are really easy. Go to the website (wnps.org)
and sign-up before March 1st.
- The Spring Native Plant Sale is May 7, 2011, 10 am - 4 pm, so get that on
your calendar; it is a big fund raiser for the Washington Native Plant
Society, Central Puget Sound Chapter, and will have over 150 species of
native plants including ground covers, perennials, shrubs and trees that are
ideal for Western Washington. The WNPS experts will be available to answer
questions, plus some great gardening and botanical books will be for sale.
www.wnps.org . Plan to come early!
- Native Plant Appreciation Week is the whole week before the plant sale,
May 1 - 7, and events for the week will be listed at www.wnps.org . Events
are in the planning stages now and will be added to the website as they
become available so plan to check for things like a garden tours, lectures
and field trips.
- Native plants sustain local biodiversity so learn about them when you can
and include them in your garden. Thanks, all the best.
