Hi Paul,

Last year the requirement was ONE hour before the first gun. Even then,
Race Committee was not always there. It's the responsibility of the Race
Committee to have GUIDANCE  ON STATION for the VOLUNTEERS to get the gear
where it needs to go and help with launching the two boats.

Wednesday night races first gun at 6:00 PM  Are we supposed to get people
out of work early so they can be at the club by 4:00PM ?  I don't think
that's going to happen.

It doesn't take two hours to prep the boats if the equipment is in working
order.  If the equipment is not in working order, it's not the volunteers
responsibility to fix it.

Could you please provide me with your list of race committee personnel
work assignments and times they will be on station at the club to prep the
patrol boats?  (having volunteers show up and be the only ones
standing around is just, not appropriate)

Lee,
Lee,  On Sunday afternoon races, the start time for Race Patrol service is
11 AM, certainly no later than 11:30 or 12:00, not the 1 PM you listed.
That lead time is needed to launch boats, inflate marks, load equipment,
meet with Race Committee, etc.

I, for one, will not launch boats until all Race Patrol and "volunteers"
show up, for to do so short-handed is unsafe.

Sorry for the spam. Race Patrol head Harry Juris has just informed us that
we need to supply one “team” each day. (Guess we read the rules wrong. See
attached document.) So in place of “one person” below, please substitute
one team. If two people make up a team, then we need 22 Cruising Fleet
members to volunteer to fill out our obligatory roster. Thanks to Judy Long
and Marty Altis, we only need 20 more.

Keep those e-mails coming, folks. We need your help. And what’s better
than a day on the Tappan Zee and free bottles of water?

To the Cruising Fleet –;

There are eleven dates left to fill in the Race Patrol roster as part of
our Cruising Fleet responsibility. If you’re a new member, this is a great
way to meet people and spend a lovely time on the water:

May 1st – Sunday afternoon – one person – 1 pm

July 3rd – Guy Moulton Regatta – two people – 9 am – all day

July 10th – Sunday race – one person – 1 pm

July 24th – Sunday race – one person – 1 pm

August 7th – Sunday race – one person – 1 pm

August 21st – Sunday race – one person – 1 pm

September 4th – Labor Day Regatta – two people – 9 am – all day

October 1st – Last Chance Regatta – two people – 9 am – all day

Race Patrol is one of the most fun things you can do in the Boat Club, and
by filling a spot you’re helping out the Cruising Fleet complete a key
requirement. If you’re a racer, and can’t race because you have RP duty,
you may claim your average score for that race at the end of the season
(assuming other boats race). Regatta duty usually gets you invited to the
after-race festivities at no charge. So doing Race Patrol for the Cruising
Fleet is definitely a win-win for everybody.

Remember, if you volunteer to fill a slot, and by some chance can’t make
it, it is your responsibility to find a replacement.

Please contact Fleet Captain John Michael at threshold.door@gamil.com if
you can help. Or RSVP this e-mail and I’ll pass it on to John.
