VUECREST HALLOWEEN Pumpkin Carving Contest Winners!
Many Vuecrest households participated in this fun event created by Eileen Foley and her family with assistance from Barbara Cosgriff. It was so kind of you to do all the work to make this happen! A big thank you for constructing a way for our neighborhood to celebrate together! Both young and old were encouraged to show off their pumpkin carving skills. It was easy to participate. Just by setting your carved pumpkins at end of your driveway no later than 1:30P on October 31st, they were judged by the official Vuecrest Pumpkin Judges. Congratulations to all of the participants and winners! We all enjoyed your creativity and designs! It’s never too early to begin planning your artistic ideas for next year.

We hope that the Vuecrest specialty lighting fills you with joy and inspiration during this holiday season. We’d like to recognize and offer our thanks to Rob DeRider and Susan Gibson who have overseen and participated in the installation of lighting and décor this year. They are the masked elves in the picture. Thanks for making our holidays a little bit brighter!
2020 Annual Meeting Wrap Up Letter from HOA President, Chris Bodiford
Dear Neighbors,
The Board was impressed with the turnout at our Annual Meeting in November. There were 28 member families represented and filled the Zoom screen. The discussions were thoughtful and lively. Thank you for your support!
Thank you to Susan Gibson for kicking off the meeting by sharing the Ground Rules.
Briefly, the agenda included:
Welcoming Committee Chair Mara announced that Vuecrest had 8 new member families join us last year. She also remembered the passing of longtime residents Mary Taylor and Glenn Oppfelt.
As President I recapped the completion of the City of Bellevue projects to replace some of our sewer lines, pave the entire neighborhood and the construction of a mini roundabout outside the east entrance. Also, the cleaning and painting of the 99 lamp posts. I also declared a goal to update our declarations and offer electronic payment of our HOA assessments in the new year.
Vice President Jonathan Kagle reviewed the incredible amount of construction underway and planned just outside of Vuecrest.
Treasurer Lea Sorgen shared the proposed budget for 2020 and noted that the Board has approved funds for a landscape redesign for the common areas.
Safety was presented by Chair Barbara Cosgriff and she shared plans for 3 upcoming homeowner roundtables in January 2021 to review and hone recommendations for the enhancement of the quality of life in our community.
Architecture Chair Rob DeRider introduced his team and described their purpose in reviewing all major exterior changes, additions, redevelopments. His team is currently monitoring 19 projects!
Landscape Chair Mark Mecham discussed updates to the maintenance specifications.
Good Neighbor Chair Jonathan encouraged neighbor to neighbor contact as the most expeditious way to resolve issues. The good neighbor committee is the next step escalation and Bellevue provides mediation service if necessary. He also reminded us that a good resource is Bellevue Service First at 425-452-6800.
Social covered the Easter Egg Hunt, the Chillz Ice Cream truck visits and the Halloween Pumpkin Carving. Mara Pitkethly will be stepping away as Chair next year so please let me know if you are interested in helping Vuecrest continue to create fun community events.
On behalf of the entire board, I would like to thank you for your support. We are always doing our best to move Vuecrest forward in a positive direction.
Sincerely,
Chris Bodiford, Vuecrest HOA President
Vuecrest Leadership
Your Vuecrest neighborhood management, coordination and CC&R protection is accomplished by a small group of Vuecrest volunteers giving graciously of their time and efforts. So, it’s always important to remember that they are not a “them”, but an “us”. And, there will always be room for your own unique contribution at every monthly meeting or as a committee member. It’s easy to join a committee and learn the ropes from the Directors or Committee Chair. It’s a great way to contribute and stay connected to your community. Here’s the list of your leadership for 2021. Complete officer and committee chair positions are determined at a monthly board Meeting.
Director V Hsiao (Serving the third year of her first term.)
Director Barbara Cosgriff (Serving the third year of her first term.)
Director Jonathan Kagle (An alumni/historian Director serving the second year of multiple consecutive terms.)
Director Rob DeRider (An alumni Director serving the second year of his term.)
Director Chris Bodiford (Congratulations! Re-elected this year, serving the first year of his second term.)
Director Judith White (Congratulations! Newly elected Director serving the first year of her first term)
2020 Committees included the following (Necessary and/or additional committees are determined by the Directors):
Architecture, Bellevue Zoning, Christmas Lighting, Compliance, Flag Duty, Good Neighbor, Landscaping, Newsletter, Public Utilities Control, Safety, Social, Website, and Welcoming.
Retiring Directors and Committee Chairs
Director/Secretary, Social Co-Chair, and Welcoming Co-Chair, Dr. David Pitkethly, is now retiring as a Vuecrest Director, the Office of Secretary, and Social Co-Chair positions. David was appointed Director/Secretary to fill the final two years of a vacated position. He has generously dedicated his time to Vuecrest offering us his fair and objective wisdom which has been appreciated at every meeting. He has simply been a breath of fresh air and has worked tirelessly on every project he has undertaken. We are sorry to see him go, but even though he has been asked to oversee other obligations with the UW Department of Neurology, he has promised to continue to support our community as a Welcoming Co-Chair. Thank you for your inspirational energy and service.
Social Co-Chair, Welcoming Co-Chair, founding member of the Vuecrest Book Club, and former Vuecrest Newsletter writer and editor, Mara Pitkethly is another pillar of strength and ability who will be stepping down as Social Co-Chair. Mara is someone who makes carrying responsibility look easy. She is both creative and dedicated. When she says she will do something you can rest assured it will be done, and with flair! Mara is someone who steps in to help whenever help is needed. Her ideas and contributions are always practical, fun, and doable. We are grateful for the sensible intelligence she has contributed to the monthly meetings and all the projects she has taken on for our community. If you have attended any monthly meeting in the past four+ years, you’ll remember the delicious fresh baked cookies supplied by Mara before we went Covid-remote. Oh, how we miss those chocolate chip cookies! Thank you for filling ALL the gaps, when volunteers were few.
Vuecrest Car Break-in
Here’s the news that no one wants to hear...Unfortunately, there was another car break-in on Sunset on Thursday, November 26th. It seems that the perpetrators were not deterred by either the car or house alarms. So, please be sure to keep your cars locked up tight and be watchful for both yourselves and your neighbors. If you see or hear anything that looks suspicious, report it to the police immediately! And, ALWAYS submit an incident report to the authorities. This may get Vuecrest more police patrols in the future.
