The Peace First Prize recognizes impressive young people for meaningful peacemaking work that creates lasting good in a community, neighborhood, or school. It is open to young people between the ages of 8 and 22 and will be awarded to 5 young leaders who have demonstrated compassion, courage, and the power to create collaborative change. Winners will each receive $25,000 and participate in a two-year Peace First Fellowship to support their development as leaders and guide them in furthering their peacemaking work.
Included below is an email template that you can send to spread the word, along with application and nomination flyers, and a celebration toolkit. I am also including sample social media posts. Subject: Join us and Peace First in building a society that celebrates and values youth peacemaking!
Dear ,
I'm writing to encourage you to take 5 minutes to nominate a young person for the Peace First Prize before our deadline on March 30th. This is your chance to take a stand for youth who are creating positive change around them.
Since the third annual Peace First Prize launched in January, we have heard some incredible stories of young people making a difference - like Nejami, a fourth grade student who makes it a point every day to go out of her way to help others, from holding the door open to stepping up for victims of bullying. She was nominated by her City Year teacher Shane, who explains that “the selflessness she demonstrates at such a young age inspires me to work harder each and every day.”
A nomination is a celebration. Celebrate a peacemaker today.
With just one month left until our deadline on March 30th, Peace First urges you to nominate a young person you know who has taken a stand, demonstrated compassion, or worked with others to solve a problem in their school or community. Simply nominating a young person is a powerful testament of your belief in their ability to be a leader. No project is too small.
The Peace First Prize will award five winners $25,000 to further their peacemaking work and participate in the two-year Peace First Fellowship. Whether they win the Peace First Prize or not, Peace First wants to share their story and celebrate their accomplishments.
Please nominate a young person today at www.peacefirst.org/prize. And help spread the word by sharing with your networks, forwarding this email, and sharing Peace First posts on Facebook (@Peace First) and Twitter (@PeaceFirstOrg). Below are some sample social media posts.
