Bath, IL has started "redneck" fishing tournaments on the Illinois River.

'Rednecks' rid Illinois River of invasive carpDate Reported: Aug 06, 2014 Mile: 112.0 Reported by: Mike Ahart, News Editor At least 7,146 Asian carp were caught and removed from the Illinois River during the 9th Annual Redneck Fishing Tournament held August 1-2, according to the Original Redneck Fishing Tournament website.
Participants use skiffs and nets to catch as many jumping Asian carp as they can during several heats over the two-day event – and they better be ready for a fishy dope-slap from time to time.
If you have seen the crazy videos of people boating and being hit by flying fish, this is the tournament and Bath, Illinois, is the location (approx. Mile 112 on the Illinois River).
Asian carp fishing is increasing in popularity, but this event, is the
original asian carp tournament where whole families and first-time fishermen/women can come out and catch them...Redneck-style. Participants learn firsthand about the importance of controlling their populations--and can even taste them this year! All tournament activities will be along the banks of the Illinois river again this year, but food, vendors and children's games will be located in the town square.
The next tournament is slated for August 7-8, 2015.
