Hey all,Several of you gave some great insight a couple weeks ago regarding survey of new to us purchase. We renegotiated and got lots of concessions. Thank you all.
We are closing and I found an insurance provider for the loan but now wish to explore options for coverage.
Boat value right at 120k, standard policy and deductions, FL cruising area (no Bahamas yet) 30+ years experience and never a boat claim. 2002 35' boat, twin diesel. Policy is 1800/year.
I'm thinking I can do better than that. Any thoughts? Companies to recommend...

I've been happy with Markel. Unfortunately I did have a claim (struck a log
while underway) and I thought Markel was fair and easy to work with. I
haven't done a lot of shopping around but what research I did found little
variation in pricing. But I have a wood boat so much more limited options.

Joel,

Join MTOA (Marine Trawler Owners Association - mtoa.net) and use their
EXCELLENT insurance program.  I recently changed and have saved $$$ and got
more coverage.

FYI, from the web site:

MTOA is proud to offer an excellent insurance program for members' boats.
Our goal is to offer good quality coverage with reputable insurers at fair
prices. Our agent can get coverage for virtually any trawler, any age, any
place.

Policy terms obtained by MTOA provide broader coverage than standard
policies. Also, we've obtained favorable underwriting standards from a
small group of insurers, helping you obtain coverage for virtually any
trawler with a good survey, regardless of vessel age or location.  For more
information, including contact information to get a quote, click MTOA
Insurance Program Overview.

No affiliation other than a happy member.

All the best
,
Bob

Thank you all for your suggestions both off and online. As an addendum..it is currently written by Baldwin Kristen in Clearwater and underwritten to Falvey Yacht Insurance. Also, hurricane plan as submitted is leaving it in water at the marina. Marina is a virtual hurricane hole and not exposed to waves at all, but only tide, surge and wind. Several have said it sounds very reasonable.
