Archiving the Black Web is launching its Web Archiving School (WARC School)https://www.archivingtheblackweb.org/warc-school/ in 2025 and we're welcoming applications for fellows, instructors, and TAs!!

WARC School is ATBW’s training program that aims to create a new generation of web archiving practitioners dedicated to documenting the Black experience online. The curriculum supports an inclusive web archiving practice that equally values the development of technical skills and the cultivation of web archiving practices informed by cultural practices and ways of knowing.

Our year-long program runs April 2025–March 2026, and is designed to contribute viable and equitable solutions to increase available collections of Black web content by training Black memory workers to produce web archive collections and by supporting Black collecting institutions to formally create sustainable web archiving programs.

There are 3 ways to participate in WARC School:

Archiving the Black Web (ATBW) welcomes applications to our first cohort of Web Archiving School (WARC School). Selected applicants will join a cohort of 15 fellows for a year-long online training program in web archiving, beginning with a grounding orientation with in-person workshops, knowledge and skill-building activities. Participants will receive a $5,000 stipend and covered expenses to participate in an in-person orientation.

Archiving the Black Web (ATBW) welcomes applications from skilled instructors and experts in the field of web archives and Black studies to apply to facilitate (Web Archiving School) WARC School Courses. This role may appeal to web archiving professionals looking to gain or enhance their teaching experience. Instructors will be required to attend the in-person orientation and teach a 4-week course on Zoom. Instructors are expected to develop their own course materials, with support from the ATBW Team. Instructors receive a $6,500 stipend.

Archiving the Black Web (ATBW) welcomes graduate students, recent graduates, and new professionals to apply to be a teaching assistant at Web Archiving School (WARC School). This role may appeal to those with digital archives, digital humanities, and Black digital studies backgrounds; as well as those who are interested in web archiving but are unable to participate in the Fellowship. TAs are expected to be active participants in the course and WARC School Program. TAs receive a $3,000 stipend.
