This morning, the Senate Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Subcommittee approved its fiscal year (FY) appropriations bill. The text will not be released until Thursday, when the full Senate Appropriations Committee takes up the bill, but according to Chairman Blunt’s (R-MO) press release, adult education (specifically Title II under WIOA) got an increase of $25 million.

The mark-up is at 10:30am in 106 Dirksen Senate Office building, and will be webcast, but audio only. The bill is bipartisan, and it’s expected that it will move through the full committee pretty easily — there may not be any amendments offered at all.
I have to say, I had a good feeling about this after talking to various staff people over the course of this year. I know they knew the case for giving adult ed another bump in this bill. And they did. Too bad it isn’t more, but I’ll take it.
FY 2019 House Appropriations Committee Mark-up
Postponed! The House Appropriations Committee postponed the mark-up of its funding bill that had been scheduled for this morning. It has not yet been rescheduled, but it will definitely not take place until after the House returns from the July 4 recess.
