That July 1st statement probably had to do with a desire to get out of
there early before winter sets in, and also to avoid black-fly season ...
that's my guess. Most folks don't like boating in snow storms, though I'm
used to it.
Be sure to stop in Fort Edward on your trip back down the Champlain Canal.

We are planning on doing the Eire and Rideau Canals......i was reading in
Skipper Bob publication and it stated that you must be at the start of the
Rideau bay July 1 st
We were thinking about August 1st so we would be coming down Lake Champlain
late Aug and the Hudson in Sept....
What is the reason for that statement?
