BACKGROUND
I've been boating and sailing most of my life, purely recreational.  Have sailed bareboat in Carribean, Bahamas several times,

ME
went to Annapolis Sailing School in the 80's
Late middle- aged widow with knee issues
My dream is to complete the Great Loop multiple times over the next years
And to live on the trawler with my dogs.

I have ideas of the best boat for me but would greatly appreciate recommendations from veterans of the lifestyle

Sincere Thanks
Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

Having only cruised on the eastern seaboard I will limit my comments as to the best dog  friendly trawler, the Mainship 390/400 series with a bow thruster, both discontinued but still popular in the used market.

Being single handed at many times it can be very difficult coming into a marina to dock with a strong cross wind, (too much free board on trawlers as opposite to sailboats) unless there is a reliable dock hand ready to take the mid-ship line.

We cruised with two Labrador Retrievers and found the easy stairway to the fly bridge and the convenient of low bunks in the second stateroom perfect for our four legged family.
