Tacoma Poet Laureate to host free workshop
Tacoma Poet Laureate - Josie Emmons Tuner - will host a free poetry workshop on July 16 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Fort Nisqually Museum at Point Defiance Park in Tacoma.
The workshop, titled Place and Persona, will examine the writing of poetry from the viewpoint of an imaginary person. Participants will explore Fort Nisqually and the surrounding area of the park and write and share draft poems.
Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Workshop participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch and writing materials. To register for the workshop, email Josie.turner.poet@gmail.commailto:Josie.turner.poet@gmail.com with the words "poetry workshop" in the subject line.
Emmons Turner's poetry has been published in 20/20 Tacoma in Images and Verse, 2010 Floating Bridge Review Number 3, In Tahoma's Shadow, California Quarterly, and Backstreet Review. She received her Masters of Fine Arts through the Rainier Writers Workshop at Pacific Lutheran University and her Bachelor of Arts from Seattle University. She has been a creative writing educator for five years, currently with Clover Park High School.
