The definition of racist is: “prejudiced against or antagonistic toward a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.
This is an effort towards providing visibility and serving a community that is historically underrepresented and marginalized and a community that has not historically had the same opportunities as others. It’s only divisive if the response is that other than inclusion and equity. I, too, am white and fully support this much needed effort.

Well said, Lynette. In our culture, everything has always been wide open for white people. That there are more and more opportunities now for all of us to begin to see, hear and understand the voices, creativity and lives of those who have long been left out makes our lives richer. It lets us, as white people, see a more multidimensional and beautiful world than we thought was possible, based on the whiteness of the culture that has raised us.

If you believe, as many do, that racism = prejudice + power, then there’s no way to see this show as racist. In fact, I see it as the opposite… as an inching open of the door to everyone, finally.
