Hi Birders,
The past week has brought an unusually large number of gulls to the St.
Clair River from Sombra to Corunna.  At certain points there are hundreds of
Herring Gulls.  On Saturday past, I estimated about 1500 at the head of Stag
Island early in the morning. The other good spot is at Lambton Generating
Station and south to Cathcart park on the St. Clair Parkway.
This morning I made a quick run to Courtright, and noted the following:  At
Cathcart Park and just across from south of Detroit Edison Plant, among the
hundreds of Herring, I noted 2 Glaucous (1 adult, 1 2nd basic), 1 Iceland
(1st basic, dark), 1 Thayer's-type (1st basic), 1 possible HerringXGreat
Black-backed (adult-darker mantle and slightly bigger than Herring).  Also
noted there was one Kingfisher.
At Lambton GS. was one Glaucous (1st basic, light), 1 Iceland (1st basic,
dark).
Also I had one adult Glaucous north of Port Lambton, and 1 Glaucous (1st
basic at Sombra Bay).  Another Kingfisher was at Port Lambton.
In other notes, on Sunday was a blue morph Snow Goose just south of Lambton
GS (rare for the river, in fact the first one I've recorded for the river),
and 7 Gadwall at Cathcart Park.  There are quite a few Swans on the river,
including Mute and Tundra.
Ducks have been few yet, but most usual "divers" represented.

_Directions to Sombra and St. Clair River:  Find Hwy 40 which runs N/S
between Sarnia and Wallaceburg.  Turn west on Lambton Rd. 2 (Bentpath Line)
and take to
Sombra on the river.  Sombra Bay is right in front of you.  Fawn Island is
just to the south of the village.  The St. Clair Parkway (Rd. 33) follows
the river along its length.
