Salty Dawg,  a Nordhavn 55 recently completed a passage from Newport, RI to
North Miami, FL offshore.

Trip statistics below:

Totals
Dates: 10/20-10/28
1128 Nautical Miles
866 Gallons fuel
171 Engine hours
Nautical miles per gallon 1128/866= 1.30
Gallons per hour 866/171= 5.06
Nautical Miles per hour 1128/171= 6.6

Hours and fuel consumption from digital readout, miles from GPS.

No mechanical issues developed underway.

A crew of four including Capt. Dave Bock, Jeff, an Electronics Tech from
Jamestown Electronics, Dennis Bruckel, and Rick Olson were crew. Watches
were three hours day and night. The weather was nearly uniformly rough.
Under adverse conditions Capt. Bock produced several memorable meals,
including the one fish caught.

We stayed mostly inside the Gulfstream, hoping for a lee shore with the
existing conditions. I'd be interested to hear other's conclusions on the
best route for a similar passage. I had voted for a east of the Stream
route, which we did in spring northbound with relatively good results. The
psychological comfort of being near shore prevailed.

What does the List feel is the best route New England to Florida
north/south offshore?

If anyone would like to see it, I can send a digital copy of a chart with
noon positions for the trip north from the Abacos as well as the trip
south. Some details of both passages are posted to my web site in the
signature block.
