Hi All,

As promised, I sent an eMail to our friends and Past Commanders of the Orillia Power Squadron, CPS-ECP and now District officers, to get an authoritative answer to the questions regarding taking a dinghy into Canada while on the America's Great Loop Cruise.  Their answer follows:

"John, so it appears that you and I understand the same rule. As long as your dinghy is on your vessel – there is no charge. If you tow your boat behind the vessel you will be charged for a second vessel of 12 ft. Minimum. If you take the dinghy out to explore etc – no charge unless you want to go through a lock or dock separately from the larger vessel at the lock’s dock. Then again you will pay separately.  The Person at the Parks Canada who will clarify this is Sylvie at 1-705-750-4900".

Hope this helps all and saves those who made the initial postings save a few dollars.  Have a great cruise in some of the most beautiful boating areas in North America (the Rideau Waterway, the Trent-Severn Waterway, the Georgian Bay and the North Channel of Lake Huron).  Take your time -- smell the roses and see our website for logs, photo's and long range cruising articles.
